I am trying to connect a I2004(P2) to a remote site with a different network. I am not using DHCP so I have manually configured the IP(10.10.20.20 255.255.255.0), GW is on router(10.10.20.254). and
S1 BCM IP(10.6.64.18)
PORT 7000
S2 same as S1

Set says "server unreachable" .I can ping the BCM from the set but if I connect my laptop to the set, I cannot telnet to the BCM on port 7000.

I have reset the BCM but no change

This set worked when it was on the same 10.6.64.0 network.

Any help would be appreciated.

Your set needs to be in the same ip subnet as your BCM. What's the gwy ip of the BCM?

the gateway ip of the BCM is 10.6.64.254. Should that be the GW of the set? Thanks

Does the set have to have an IP in the 10.6.64.0 sub-net?

It's not the case that the IP phone must be on the same subnet as the BCM.
If it was, then the phone would have no need for a default gateway setting.
I've plently of examples of IP phones working over VPN connections, etc.
It's fine for them to be on different subnets.

Also, I checked telnet to a BCM50 now on port 7000 and I don't get a connection. I figure that's normal.

Here's what I'd check.

1. Make sure that there's no firewall between the BCM and the phone. This could cause a problem.
2. Try putting a PC (or laptop) with the same details as the IP phone where the IP phone is (disconnecting the IP phone, of course). Then see whether you can ping the BCM, log into it, etc.
This can prove your routing is working correctly.
3. Make sure there's no NAT between the IP phone and the BCM. If there is, then it may not be possible to get it to work (I don't know how, and I've tried this).
4. Make sure you don't accidentally have any VLAN settings in the IP phone. If you do, then you may not get a connection to the BCM. I've seen this mistake waste much time.

If you want to try those and get the results, then I can give you more info.
Also, if you include the IP addresses, netmasks and gateways of the BCM and the IP phone, as well as the IP addresses of the routers, then I'll see what I can say about it.

To add to what Frideo stated, there is absolutely no problem with an IP Phone and the BCM being on different subnets. BUT the packets from the IP Phone have to be able to reach the BCM as pointed out. Just as importantly, the packets from the BCM have to be able to reach the IP Phone. AND if you are using two IP Phones over VPN connections, the often forgotten part is that the packets from one VPN tunnel (one phone) have to be able to reach the other VPN tunnel (other phone). Failure of any these paths will lead to either "server unreachable" or "no speech"/"one way speech".

Thanks for all the help. I tried the different suggestions with no luck so I decided to do a old-fashion PBX re-boot. And guess what, the IP Phones came right up. Just wanted to pass this on and again thanks for the quick replies. Makes my job a lot easier with you guys around.
