I2004 stuck in downloading firmware mode 1

I have an agent setup on a i2004, the set was unplugged and when it was plugged back in the display said it was downloading the firmware - - that was 5 days ago now.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

This may be caused by a timing issue with your LAN switch, you need to turn spanning-tree off, this will allow the IP set to download the fw.

Thank you RVstew, that was exactly the problem. There was an old old 3Com switch that actually doesn't have the ability to turn the spanning-tree off. I was able to move the IP sets to a different IP segment, downloaded the new firmware successfully and returned the set back to its original owner and it is now working fine.
