Hello All: We are having an issue with computer slowdowns on occasion. We are running on a CS1000 with Succession 4.5. The I2004 phones work fine for the most part but there are some who experience very slow response on the pc. It seems to be only when huge amounts of data is being transferred. Below is my configuration of all of our IP sets. Could there be an issue with this configuration and has anyone else experienced this. One solution seems to be to have a separate cable run for the pc but that is costly.

I will gladly accept any recomendations

EAP ENABLE = 0 (NO)
DHCP = 1 (YES)
CACHED IP = 0 (NO)
DHCP = 1 (PARTIAL)
S1 IP: = 192.168.145.24 for Signalling Server
S1 PORT = 4100 (default)
S1 ACTION: = 1 (default)
S1 RETRY COUNT = 5 (default)
S2 IP: = 192.168.129.100
S2 PORT: = 4100 (default)
S2 ACTION: = 1 (default)
S2 RETRY COUNT: = 7 (default)
CFG XAS = 0 (NO)
VOICE VLAN? = 0 (NO)
PC PORT = 1 (ON)
DATA VLAN = 0 (NO)
DUPLEX = 0 (AUTO) 1 or FULL
GARP IGNORE = 0 (NO)

THe phone should not cause any slow downs, but you never know. Do you have anyone who is experiencing this issue and is sitting next to an open cube/office? My thought is that instead of guessing if the phone is causing this or not, you can temporarily run a patch cord to the open port and separate that users phone and PC connections to see if it makes a difference

YES!!!!!! We had that issue i2002 and i2004 on a 4.5 system and ONLY with large amounts of data and on network share drives. The only work-around we found was to have another network cable run direct to the PC. You could try a packet capture but our people ended up moving to another building and we still have them with separate network cables for those that push large files.

I sure wish Nortel would have fixed it!!!! Good luck if you find another inexpensive way around it.

Hi Trvlr1: I have actually removed the odd I2004 phone and replaced it with a digital set and that has cured those individual's problems but in this case I can't so I might have to have another cable run to their desks as you suggest.

Sorry Tman45: I was hoping for another solution as well since I can see a whole lot more of this happening soon with a new software package that is being implemented here.

Thanks: I appreciate the response and if I find out anything I will pass it on here.

I have had this happen. It is usually a port speed/duplex mismatch. To correct I reset the set, entered the setup and if the port speed was set to auto, set it to 100/full duplex. Or, if you have a MIS department, have them verify the port speed on the access switch the phone is connected to and have them match the phone setup. You may want to veify what the NIC card in the PC is set to also. It looks like you are not runnning a separate voice and data vlan. If you were you may have to set the voice vlan setting to auto and the data vlan setting to 100/Full. It is always best to set all devices to auto but it is not always a perfect world.

The IP Phone searches for the connect server.
The IP Phone registers with the TPS and, if needed, begins
the firmware download. This takes several minutes. When complete,
the IP Phone resets.
The current Call Server date and time appear on the top line of the
display when the configuration is complete. Self-labeling keys also
appear.
11 Check for a dial tone and the correct DN above the display.
