I have a very simple setup, but cannot get an i2004 set to register with the BCM. I have my published IP set to LAN 1 which is set to default (10.10.10.1)
Registration is on and auto-assign DN's is off (my preference in this case)
I am connecting the BCM LAN-1 port and the i2004 to a 10/100 ethernet switch. The phone is setup as follows:

Set IP:10.10.10.10
NetMask:255.255.255.0
Def GW: 10.10.10.1

S1 IP: 10.10.10.1
S1 Port: 7000
S1 Action: 1
S1 Retry Count: 10

S2: Same settings as S1.

DHCP:0

The set is an NTEX00.

The set says locating server for about 6 seconds, then nothing.

i'd try to telnet to the BCM and do CLI's ping from there to the phone.
your setup should work just fine.
also, make sure all link negotiation takes place as expected..

Why is your S1 the same as your gateway? Your S1 IP should be the BCM.

10.10.10.1 is the element manager ip, not the address for the 2004 to connect. Connect to element manager and under system-ip sub system. this will tell you what the bcm ip address is and it must be within your current ip address range.

There is no DHCP setup on the LAN. The "LAN" is nothing more than a 10/100 Netgear Switch, the BCM and the i2004 phone. Just enough equipment to hook it all together. I have tried a crossover cable between the phone and the BCM with identical results. My BCM is both my Gateway and System 1 for the phone, since there is no external router involved. I could turn up DHCP on the BCM, but I would prefer to do this whole thing manually.

I have seen references to "partial DHCP" in this forum. I am curious how you get this option on the phone, since I have never seen it offer me anything but the settings "0" and "1" for DHCP, of which I have tried both. For what it's worth, I did try including my internet router in the setup, setting the BCM to 192.168.0.10, and the phone to 192.168.0.11, with the default gateway set to the router's IP of 192.168.0.1 on the BCM and the i2004. I set DHCP to 1 while the router was involved, as well as trying the static IP mentioned above. Same results...

You are very close. you do want to use your router and you do want partial dhcp. under phone config DHCP 1 yes then the next propt is parcial of full. press 1 for parcial then s1 to the bcms ip just as you stated above. Make suer the address of your bcm can be pinged from computer.

When I have set DHCP to "1" on the i2004, I have not seen the "Partial DHCP" prompt. I suspect this is due to the fact that I have a "Phase 0" i2004 set.
I am worried that there is an incompatibility between this set and BCM 3.6,
but elsewhere in the forum it says there is not.

On my i2004 set, the very last option is DHCP, which can be set to 1 or 0.
When you press OK, the config session ends, and the phone tries to connect with the BCM.
I figure many of you have Phase 1 or 2 sets.

Here is the chart:

Phase Model Number
0 NTEX00BA
1 NTDU82
2 NTDU92

Any new suggestions?

Oops... seems I left something out of my original and subsequent posts!

I am using a BCM 200 with 3.6 software that has Cumulative Patch 3 applied.
My apologies to all.
