Has anyone had any luck trying to connect to a remote BCM through the internet? I realize this is a loaded question however, here is my problem. Nortel in there sales documents, says that you can connect one of these dandy IP phones at the boses house through there DSL or cablr connection to the BCM at your office. Now having said all that, I contacted nortel for technical support and guess what??? They don't support that typ of connection. If any one can put on the right path here it would be greatly appreciated. I have a Linksys wirles router at my bosses house and I also have a Linksys Firewall\Router here in my office and my BCM is connected to it's DMZ port. Thanks.

What have you tired so far? You will need to tell the IP2004 what the IP address is of your office router. Will have to open those ports and allow the firewall to pass them through.

Thanks Neil. I have done all of this but it seems like It wont let me get passed this. Once, I did get a connection, but the phone would ring and I could dial it's extension but no voice. Called Nortel and they said they don't support this..

Have you opened ports 28000-28511 for the firewall to allow them to pass through to the IP address of the BCM? Your speech paths use ports 28000-28511.

Neil, I tried that but right now I have my BCM connected to the DMZ port of the router. It is my understanding that everything should pass through to the BCM...???

Run port scan on the Ip that BCM have and see if your router is blacking ports 28000-28511 that’s a steep one.

How about the router at your bosses' home. Is the IP address of the i2004 in the DMZ at his house too?

THE REASON NORTEL DOES NOT SUPPORT THIS CONNECTION IS BECAUSE MOST LECS DO NOT OFFER DEDICATED OR FIXED IP ADDRESSING FEATURES OR STATIC IPS WITHOUT ADDITIONAL MONTHLY CHARGES , A VPN SOLUTION MAY BE NEEDED IF ITS THAT IMPORTANT TO THE BOSS FOR CONNECTIVITY SAKE, MOST LECS HAVE ALREADY CAUGHT ON TO THE FEEBIE.........

From the remote loc. can you ping the BCM? Will your Linksys support Voip? What EDCE code are you set for?
