I would like to export and create a csv file spreadsheet indicating mailbox resources. Does Microsoft have a utility to use with Exchange 5.5.admin that could do this? Is there such a way? I have to get an assessment of current mailbox sizes of my server and present them on paper.

Yes, with Mailbox manager.
The administrator or postmaster gets a CSV file with all stats included.
Press help in Exchange Admin and look for Mailbox Manger on how to configure, it is easy. Just make sure you do not turn on the autodelete old messages option.
