I want Vista to look like I am running XP

Our corporate office is now taking over our computer systems. They want us to take a step back and uninstall all the OS Vista Ultimate, and install Win XP Pro. They also want us to go from MS Office 2007 to MS Office 2003. they pull our computer information through an Altiris program.

I was wondering, instead of falling backwards on the technology stairway, is this: Is there a way, I am guessing in the registry, to make it look like I am running XP pro and office 2003?

Why don't you ask corporate if there is a waiver form you can fill out that will allow you to keep running what you're running? This would be better than trying to circumvent their wishes.

We have not had any support from our IT in corporate for the last ten years. When we needed a computer or anything we had to do for ourselves, to be able to run our business efficiently.
We have now in the last four months just started to get responses out of our corporate office. Now they want us to change all that we do, back to what is "standard".
The reasoning also that we get is that the software has not been tested yet. I have heard rumor that Microsoft is not going to offer XP and Office 2003 in 2008. Then when we purchase or upgrade, more cost/time will be incurred to go back to what we already have. (which is only a few months away)

As an IT professional, I'm going to suggest you follow corporates request, and let them worry about the issues you've raised.

That's what they're there for, and now that they're responding to you, I don't see why you'd argue the point.

See if they will allow you to be the Guinea Pig, and do the testing?

Otherwise you can commit your thoughts and concerns to paper and forward them through proper channels to the powers that be.

The bottom line is that job security may depend on full compliance to any official instructions.

Sounds like you've raised valid points. The problem is that you've raised them with us and we can't do anything to help you get around your company policies. You should raise them with the proper powers-that-be in your company and move forward from there.
