I do consulting for a small companies. Want to be notified when their critical servers are no longer online or available via pager or e-mail. Any ideas on a solution for this? I know about larger products like Openview but this would be for a small company. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

For the Windows platform look at What's Up Gold:

For *nix try Nagios (used to be NetSaint):

From experience and first hand observation, Nagios is very good.
