This Mac has a ethernet connection, and I can get out on the network. But I can't get on the internet. I am a PC person so I would like some help figuring out where to put settings.

What does the Router address really want to know, would that apply to the gateway? Or would Search domains apply to the gateway? Everything else I think I've got.

Lets Imagine your ipconfig /all lists some DNS servers

the TCP/IP control panel I use (MacOS9.1) calls those name Server Addr.

Your Default gateway is My Router address

search domains I fill with my ISP domain name (cableone.net for me) it helps if you do not know your DNS servers

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Hmmm... so I do that, and still get 'URL cannot be found.' In Netscape 3.1

This is a Power Mac 8600. It originally had 7.6 on it, but now it has 8.1.

Also, I have an onboard Network card, and an add-on network card. (Slot C1) That is what I have plugged my network cable in (C1) and that allows me to connect to Apple shares on the MS network. That is what I am setting all my prefs to in TCP/IP setup.

I know the router is right, but the IP address doesn't work. We have an Intranet webserver, the ip is the same netmask as the mac, and that doesn't work. When I go to a windows system and try a ping to the mac's IP, I get nothing.

At the very top of the TCP/IP panel in Connect Via what are your choices? can you see two ethernet choices there? ( i do not have two cards so I am guessing)

Yea, I have two Ethernet choices. AppleTalk uses C1, so I set TCP/IP to use C1. Those tools you pointed me to were handy, but says I can't even ping a system on my network. Could the card be such that it doesn't work with TCP/IP? It works with MacShared windows shares.

You cannot ping them, they cannot ping you and Appletalk works...
does Apple system profiler tell us anything in Network Overview TCP/IP

I am at a loss
