Hello all!

I'm about to throw Backup Exec out the window!

I have Backup Exec 9, build 4172 with all updated patches(running on a NetWare 6 server, Dell PowerEdge 1400SC, with a Travan 20 GB (TR-5) tape drive).

I put the cleaner tape in and nothing happened. It turns out that the option to clean is grayed out. (Jobs>Utilities>Clean).

When I read the guidebook, it says I need to designate a cleaning slot. But When I select Devices/Drives>Robots (like the instructions say to do) there are NO robots to choose from. By the way, what IS a robot? and how do I know if I need it? Am I interpreting the instructions wrongly?

Okay, fine, so I try to initialize a "robot" then. Following instructions, I select Jobs>Utilities>Initialize, except the fact that ALL the utilities are grayed out!

Does anyone out there know how to set my server up so I can clean it?

Thanks!

The robots that they are referring to are tape devices that hold 8 or so tapes in a magezine. The tape drive unit automatically swaps the tapes for you.

I find myself wondering if BE on your machine is correct identifying the hardware or if you are not getting it to recognize the cleaning tape. Our hardware is quite different but when I load the cleaning tape, I "inventory" it and then run the cleaning job.
