I have viewed some discussion on this and still haven't seen a resolution on doin this, does anyone know the access list rules that will do this. I have a CISCO 1600
Try this. Never tried it myself but it seems to make sense. Please post your results.

One way to block AIM is to block access to:

login.oscar.aol.com

Name: login.oscar.aol.com
Addresses: 205.188.153.43, 205.188.153.44

This is what I have in the router now (I'm kind of a beginner with Cisco Routers)in my access-list

deny ip host 205.188.153.43 any
deny ip host 205.188.153.44 any

they are the last 2 lines in my access-list would this be the correct syntax and location for this?

BTW - I could still log on to the instant messenger.
I finally solved it, I am now blocking the Instant Messenger through the Cisco Router. I got all the IP addresses that it tried to access (through my packet sniffer) and I entered them into my extended ip access list.
I read everything I could on the subject today and gave myself a lesson in Router 101. If you would like the list I made, you can email me at jjasper@world.std.com
