Hello,

I've tried different shadow effects coupled with radial and linear gradients, but can't mimic the style similar to the Google title text seen on
Please advise.
Thanks so much,
Paulajune

The google logo was made in Photoshop and uses a simple layer style emboss.

Post to the right forum

Right forum? How do we know what software forum to post to if we do not know how a piece of art is produced? Illustrator can also do emboss/bevels with the right third-party plugin.

You may also achieve 3D effects using a gradient mesh. But this is not for the faint-hearted.

Many graphics professionals will do logos (even embossed/beveled ones) in Illustrator so that they can be scaled on more than just web pages.

If you do not own Photoshop, you can achieve the same effect with GIMP, a freeware bitmap image editor.

Why is everyone in this forum responding to me as picklefish?

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions. But, barehug, as jimoblak says, of course I'm not going to know to post to the Photoshop forum if I think it can be done in Illustrator. And it sounds as if it can.

I'll try your suggestions!

Thanks again,
paulajune

Damn. I seem to be 'having a go' at everyone today.

Okay.

Apologies to you paulajune, for the curt response.

Yes it can be done in Illustrator, but the fact you asked the question made me assume you were a novice, and by far the easiest way to achieve the effect you are after is in Photoshop.

And no, you weren't to know that.

Now I think I'll go down to the park and beat up some Grannies.

You can actually pull it off with a combination of transparency, glow and feather effects and masking. It involves makeing multiple copies of the word.
Copy then paste in front then apply the outer glow effect, nudge it up and to the left. Then paste in front again, select the new copy and the outer glow copy and mask them. Then in the transparency menu switch it from normal to multiply. Repeat and nudge the other way with a white shape for the highlights.

Thanks, JAQUAN...it sounds complex, but I'll try it!
Very thoughtful of you,
Paula
