i think my harddrive is going bad...!

1. Over the last several months, the system will lag, hang a few moments...then i can hear a noise in the harddrive, as though it's searching...then it resumes...

2. Over the last week or so, I've been getting BlueScreens/Stop Errors when running various programs on either partition...

3. Last night, had another Stop Error, and the system wouldn't restart. ("Primary Disk Failure") After fiddling and switching around harddrives, etc., it finally RESTARTED normally...

I dl a disk check utility from hitachi, and plan on running it when I get home... If I can boot in 1 more time, I plan on backing up everything on DVD...

Opinions: is it going bad? (ps. still under warrentee for over 1 year!!!)

It appears that the HD is failing.
The utility will show if it is.
You're correct in backing up all critical data ASAP.

I actually ran the utility from the Hitachi site, and it didn't detect any errors...
...though last night, it happened again.

Time to try and get a replacement!
