hi - anyone have any suggestions. I have been managing for a couple years and would like to consult some books to improve my skills. thanks.any introductory books is fine as well - really concerned about metrics as well. thanks.

I have a couple of titles by Steve McConnell on my bookshelf that I like:

(The Software Project Survival Guide)

(Code Complete)

Then this is the text I ended up having to have when I did a graduate level IT management course once upon a time:

Of course, there's lots more books out there written on this topic, and YMMV as always. If you are in programming, I'd go for "Code Complete" first simply because it has good information that concerns both the front-line types and one who would manage such things.

i'm basically managing systems and i.t ...anything and everything but software...thanks for the suggestion
