I seem to be losing packets

I'm trying to diagnose a problem I have at a client's site:

Some packets from the server running Exchange/IIS (Windows SBS Server 2003) seem to be vanishing before they reach the firewall (Netgear FVS114). When I try to connect to OWA over the internet I get timeouts or "the page cannot be displayed", but when connecting internally, or via Hamachi VPN everything works fine.

Using Ethereal protocol analyser I can see HTTPS packets arriving at the server, and I can see the acknowledgements being sent out. However when I check the outbound log on the firewall there is no HTTPS traffic listed. All outbound ports are open.

I'm frankly at a loss (no pun intended) as to what's going on. Can anyone suggest a course of action?

Where are you running the Ethereal? Is it on the server itself, or are you using a separate box on the switch with port mirroring so that you can see that the packet actually made it out of the server?

Are you running a software firewall on the server? Can it distinguish between the local network and an external network? If you turn the software firewall off, does the Internet OWA work?
