Hi everybody,

I am very new to apache. I just installed MySQL and i would like to install Apache and PHP to start exploring dynamic internet sites. During the installation of Apache it asked:
Server Name
Domain Name
Administrative email account
Well, i want to install it at home where i don't have internet and where my domain ( cannot be reached. What should i fill in???

Please help me!!!

Thanks, Dorine

Thanks Wullie,

This helps a lot. Should i put localhost for both the server name as the domain name?

Thanks again!!

Hi Dorine,

Just use localhost for any internet address that you are asked for or need to use in the future.

Servername and Domain are both localhost. The choices you make just now are only to configure the httpd.conf file and can easily be changed later if need be.

Just so that you know, on Windows you can open the hosts.sam file in the Windows directory and change the loopback address that the OS uses. This can be anything you want, even Dorine. This means that when you type Dorine in the browser, the site on Apache is called.

Hope this helps Wullie
