the solrais system no more responds.
for each command issused, it says "I/O error"
no reboot or shutdown possible.

any suggestions?
Thanks

i could not even power down system by pressing the power button.
the message: warning 1287, power down system failed

If you cannot power off by a stop-a or pressing the power off switch then remove the power cord and re-insert.

1. install the cd media of the Solaris O/S
2. Power on and when you see the banner appear--press
the stop-a keys. This will take the system down to the
ok prompt.

3. If you are at the ok prompt ---proceed as showned.

. ok boot cdrom -s
. after booting up run format and see if you see the
system disk(s).
. If the system disk is seen then fsck the partitions
on the system disk ( you can get the partition
slices from the format ran above).

If you cannot boot from cdrom and cannot get to the ok prompt then if using a Sun keyboard ,observe the keyboard LEDS for further info.

Please post for further info.

Thanks for your message.
i powered down the system by pressing for a long time (30 secs).
when i repowered up, it came to the normal state.
i've the graphical interface.
it seems to be working well.

but i want to vérify if everything is OK.
can i leave it as such.
i wanted to do fsck but as the file system is mounted, it refused.
Please give me your suggestions!

On a reboot a fsck is done on the file systems listed in the /etc/vfstab.

Do you see any error(s) in the var/adm/messages file?
Is there any info in the messages file prior to the time when you first notice the system's problem?

Run iostat -En and look for any disk errors.

yes,it can do well when machine wasn,t reboot ,and run well.
1.turn to single user mode.
