My system has most of the time 30-45% iowait when i do top command ? Any suggestions please ?

 
Run iostat -xnp 10 (gather info every 10 seconds )


Look for high service time on disks

Run the vmstat (man page for vmstat)
run sar
 
unixjr, after you gather the info from tuka's suggestion, you should figure out what is on the disks that have high service times and try to spread some of the files to other disks/controllers.
