I am thinking of buying a really cheap DELL OPTIPLEX GX1 but it has no hard drive, what sort of hd is compatible and whats the max size i can go for.

You can put any brand hard drive in the dells, shouldn't be a problem. Do yourself a favor though, with drives, you get what you pay for. Spend a little extra and get the better brand like maxtor or seagate. It should handle a 20 to 40 gig drive with no problems...
