Hi,
When I installed Service Pack 2, it included the Explorer Information Bar, which tries to "help" by asking if you want to block content on popup windows.

I'm able to disable it for normal web viewing, but as a web designer, when PREVIEWING IN BROWSER, the bar pops up, even with all the instructions I followed to disable it. This makes it so I cannot preview the window dimensions I have set, among other things. I can't even find a way to uninstall it. If the only way I can get rid of it is to uninstall the entire Service Pack 2, I'm willing to do that, but don't know how to do that either. It does not come up as a choice when using Add/Remove Programs in the control panel.

Sorry, I'm not an IP professional, but could find no other forum related to browser issues, nor to Internet Explorer.

Any suggestions?
Thanks so much,
Paula

Perhaps you can add the site that you are working on to IE's trusted sites....Tools, Internet Options, Security tab, Trusted Sites button. This might give you the functionality that you need. But if you are developing a site that uses pop-ups, many of the users will be using SP2 and will encounter the same issue; you might want to consider not using pop-ups.

Thanks, I'll try that. What I'm doing is not literally a popup. It's a form that the user gets after clicking a button. The bar is even appearing on NON popups. Very irritating.

But I will try both your suggestions, Smah and Bcastner. Thank you so much!

Bcastner,

I'm very happy that one of the tacts on the link you provided finally worked. However, this move was not recommended for security reasons. If I already have Norton Utilities, including Virus Scan, AND the Norton firewall, will I be protected?

Here's the fix:
"To allow any Web site to run scripts and ActiveX controls on your computer:

In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll down to the Security section of the list. Select the Allow active content to run in files on My Computer check box, and then click OK."

Thanks again,
Paula

The setting in IE is to control the installation and the running of ActiveX controls. This door if left open is a relatively attractive one to malware, but not viruses.

Make sure you set to at least prompt the setting for 'Download unsigned AxtiveX controls'
