Also if you do a 'man fdisk' it reports that there is a fault with the DOS/WindowZ fdisk and informs you how to remove the first block on the disk where the MBR is.
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/WHICHDISK db=512 count=1
So next time this happens you'll know where to look. (I have done this 3 times and spent hours trying to remember, fount the answer last night!!)
