I need to know how long do I have to study? If going to microskill is a good idea? what do you learn about computers? What so you have to do to qualify, to enroll in a school for programmers? Is it worth it?

PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND IF I CAN DO IT?

THANKS.......RICKYRON

Being a programmer involves a LOT more than simply learning about computers and a programming language. Look in the "How to Improve Myself to Get Ahead in My Work" forum for a thread by me Titles "The Profession of Programming". It lists a series of excellent articles about what to expect.

I haven't lost my mind - I know it's backed up on tape somewhere ....

Like anything else, the length of time to become proficient varies with your natural abilities and desire to become better.

I know several programmers who, while they're not rocket scientists, work really hard, and as a result are very good at writing software. If I were a manager, I'd hire them in an instant.

Of course, it helps that they are able to see the answers to problems in terms of software. I guess what I'm saying is not only do you have to work hard, you need to have some natural skills at programming. The best way to find out if you do or not is to try your hand at it.

See if you can find a copy of Visual Basic (5.0 or later) for sale on eBay and try and write a Music CD collection program. If you can do that, you've likely got what it takes.
