Hello all hope someone can pointme in the right direction.
I have a 400k SF wharehose where I have a total of 34 access points, They are located thruout about 50ft high,
the guys thay onstall them did not leave any documents telling us which one is which! I can lunch inSSIDer an see all otf them but cannot pinpoint any single one. short of finding a lifth that goes that high and looking at the phisical imac address to know which is which.?
I was hopping someone new of an app that could do that for me or a device that I could use to do so.
any help is appreciated.

Does something like NetStumbler running on a laptop give you an idea which one your standing underneath by the indicated signal strength?

I have used netstumbler the problem is that I can't tell wich AP is which.
the company that needs this has a wharehouse about 400K SF, they have a total of 36APs deployed and we've only been able to find 32. I admit they have enough coverage, but for a few areas in the wharehouse do to lots of metal and liquids. I'm looking for an app or device that can in essence locate the AP via GPS or some kind of tracking.
by the way the original wiring company did not supply a cable map with this .

Assuming your Access Points are reasonably equally spaced out over the 400,000 sq ft, you'll probably have a separation of about 1000 ft between each one.

Can you physically see each AP from ground level, or are they completely hidden?

Can you turn off the mains power to individual APs, or are they all on the same power circuit?

If I'm right about the 1000 ft separation, then I'd have thought you'd get a pretty good idea of which one you're standing underneath by its signal strength when using Netstumbler. You'd then be able to read off the MAC address.

I assume you've got a list of all the relevant IP Addresses. Many APs have the facility to be switched off (RF-wise) when accessing them via their IP Address. Switching off an AP whilst you're close to or underneath it, would register on Netstumbler.
