This is my first time I work on an Mac platform and my boss has just asked me to navigate thro iBook I have and start the unix terminla. I have worked for a short time on Unix b4 but not on something called "Darwin"?!
Is there any difference between both???
Another thing is that I am told to change the super user. But everytime I start the terminal i dont need a password or login how can this be and what can i do to be the super user or admin on the machine.
thanx to all who will HELP ME!!![sadeyes]

Most things can be done with the "sudo" (temp. root) command w/o needing to be logged in as Root. If you need to set up a Root account, use the NetInfo Manager utility in your Applications folder.
In NetInfo Manager, click Domains and then Security, then Authenticate. This will allow you to set up a Root user account.

The reason you dont have to log-in is because you are already logged in automaticlly at start up, in order to use the system in the first place,. If you have multiple Accounts on your ibook(if you have enabled a Root account, you do), you may to go to System Preferences (Personal/Login/Login Window)and uncheck Automatically login. Now every time you turn on the ibook, you will need to log in . To log in as Root, at the User prompt select "other", type "Root" and then the root password.

OS X(Darwin) IS unix. Darwin is based on the Mach(BSD) kernel. The default terminal Shell is tcsh, but you can change it to a more familiar shell if you want.

Enjoy the ibook, mine rocks!!
