I created a .psp vector image and when saving it as an .eps file I get a message stating, "Because of the limitations of the specified file format (and possibly the save options you’ve selected), the saved file will be limited to a merged image. Would you like to continue"? If I select "Yes" and reopen the image it has been converted to a raster image. The new file extension is .eps but PSP’s layers palette lists it as a raster image. The logo is to be used in multiple projects with a printing firm and they require the vector image as an .eps file. They confirm that the file is not suitable as is. I have tried every option I can think of and I’m out of ideas. If anyone can tell where I’ve gone wrong or what I’m missing I would be very grateful.

You probably will have to use Photoshop to do what you want. You will be able to choose the previewer, set the encoding, composite, halftone, include vector data, etc... PSP still has some limitations when it comes to creating graphics for print.

Well... you do not have to include vector data with the .eps format. PSP is not designed to work with the format other than read.

PSP also has limited functionality when it comes to CYMK and seperations. If fact, PSP is limited when it comes to serious print graphics. It is that fact, which prompts most users of Photoshop to contend that PS is better than PSP.

Mike, if you read the original post, you'll see that (s)he's having trouble exporting a vector image without it being turned into a raster. Nothing to do with CMYK seperations, which the printing firm will presumably be doing with their software.

Photoshop's superiority in this regard is moot - that's not the tool that's available. Mind you, my comment about Corel improving things in the future isn't much immediate help either.

So, merch00, does the image have to be a vector one? If so, I think you're going to struggle as I don't think PSP can save vector images in any file formats but its own. Could your printer accept a very big raster image instead? If so, you could resize the vector image in PSP to the necessary size (at 300 pixels per inch), then export it as a .eps as requested. It's not ideal, but it may be your only option.

Chris, My comments were in general when it come to the printing, and yes Chris, I did read the original post! And yes, if merch00 does not have access to a graphic editor like PhotoShop, then he or she is out of luck. My point was to not leave any room for hope when it comes to working with PSP and the .eps format for printing. As I mentioned over the years here and even at Jasc meetings, PSP is not a printing package. Yes, it is about CYMK (color seperations) when it comes to .eps, Chris, that is why the printer wants the image in a format that allows for seperations.

This problem has been bugging me for a couple of years and I finally decided to search the web for an answer, so thank you for that. I need to upgrade to Adobe Illustrator (i thought), not adobe Photoshop? On occassion I create logos for school functions and end up paying someone to re-create my artwork in a format the printer can use...tiff or eps. I didn't understand why PSP says it supports the formats, when it doesn't. Thanks for the explanation.
