My problem is that i dont know much about setups of routers, i have just got DSL-500 adsl router and i want to connect my network to the internet. OS is Win2000 server and Win2000 Pro. I can only setup up internet on one computer but when it comes to the whole LAN, I cant get it to work. It gives the usual dns error msg.
I have setup the router through the web manager and i think that i am only few clicks away from the solution, but as i said i dont know much about routers and the way they get implemented.
I would appreciate if anyone knows any websites or has any info on how to get the network on the internet, the users guide is not helpfull at all.
Thanx for any sort of replay!

YEAH!!...

i have a similar problem - i have two comps, both win2k pro. since theres only two, i connected them with a crossover cable. the network is working fine. but i have an adsl connection - i allowed connection sharing, and in-demand dialing and all that, but i cant browse the internet on the second comp. i can use instant messengers and such, so that the connection is active - but i cant browse on ie or any other browser.

setup:

phone jack -> dsl modem -> first comp (via usb)
first comp -> crossover cable -> second comp (peer to peer)

WHOELSE did you set you router with your PPPOE log in and password? do you have a static address or dynamic? if its dynamic you dont need to set up any DNS. you need to configure your machines to use DHCP to grab ips automatically.

8humhum8, did you change your IE settings to use a connection that is always on (IE. Lan)?

Thanx for replay VMPhilosophy

DHCP is running on the server, the ip address of the router is set to 192.168.0.2, my server address is 192.168.0.1, when i try to access the internet from the server i have to put routers ip in to the dns and default gateway or else it doesnt work, but then it gives me an error msg for the netlogon, it says that dns server is not available so i put servers ip address back, i have only changed the dns server address and default gateway on some machines that i need the internet access and also i changed their ip address. there must be some other way where machines can have auto ip and dns from the server and be able to access the internet and that is what i would like to know. sorry that post is so long!!!
please feel free to correct me or instruct me.

okay its been resolved - i got an old 10baseT hub (which will be fast enough at first) and went from there. seems like internet connection sharing, like all cheap software solutions, is very buggy.

in any case, its time windows got official dsl support - simulating a digital data exchange with analog dial up connections has more then once proved a failure, for me.

urg hubs ;)

Did you try manuallly putting the DNS servers into the second machines TCP properties ?
