I am running sbs2k and exchange2k with backup exec. 9.0 on the same server. The backups are backing-up with execeptions. That means that alot of the files are being skipped. The files are system files like fallows:

TheitemC:\ProgramFiles\VERITAS\BackupExec\NT\Logs\adamm.log in use - skipped.

The item C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\MTADATA\DB000022.DAT in use - skipped.

The item C:\WINNT\system32\dhcp\dhcp.mdb in use - skipped.

The item C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\MSDAIPP\Offline\0x00000001_R in use - skipped.

These are some of the files that are giving me backup execptions. Please help me out. I greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,

:)

Do you have OFO or AOFO (Open File Option or Advanced Open File Option) installed?

OFO/AOFO allows Backup Exec to backup files while they are in use as some file types normally cannot be backed up if they are being used.

No, I dont know where should I enable this option. Or is there an software I need to install that will allow me to backup open files. Does this come with the veritas cd?

Yes, it does come with the CD but you need a license for it. Check your purchase agreement and see if you bought any licenses for options/agents. A lot of times, when you buy Backup Exec you get some options included. For example, when I bought 9.0 I got three options included and I could choose which three I wanted to install.

You might have to go back to whomever you bought BE from and see if that option is included or if you have to buy another license.

Before you do all that, in BE, select HELP, then ABOUT Backup Exec. There should be a window with all your license information. See if the OFO or AOFO is listed there. If not, then it's not installed.

What does OFO agent mean? No, I checked and I did not see it. So, that means I have to order it? or do I have to buy it online?

Thanks

OFO - Open Files Option.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

AOFO is not a needed Option (it is also an expensive option...). Sometimes it is possible to exclude files, for example the "dhcp.mdb". Another solution will be, to add a pre-batch file. This will stopp a running database or service and will allows you to backup it on a "offline-modus". After the job has finished, it is possible to add a second script wich does start the "stopped serice".
