I am a teacher with an old IBM thinkpad 500 (model 2603-17N) in my archives (along with a Timex, some Radio Shacks, etc) that I would like to get to work. It uses Initial Microcode Load (IML). I have downloaded all I can find on it including the diagnostic disks from IBM. The IML files seemed to be corrupt..sometimes it would boot and sometimes it wouldn't. It always booted ok with the IBM diagnostic disk. I did an unconditional format, f-disk and DOS format and loaded the system for DOS 6.22. The drive reads and writes fine but will not boot...gives error message "no boot sector found..." What next? How do I get the IML files on this drive? Anyone know?
