i need help on how to update a compal laptop CL50 bios

hi all

i just inherited a compal cl50 laptop and am trying to update its bios. its current version is v1.60.

i downloaded the latest file from

http://www.compal.com

itself and created a bootable cd. when i run the cd, there is an error message:-

insyde dos flash update utility v0.16 (06/12/2003)
chipset: intel 855pm
opening rom image file: CL50200A.rom
Error -- Bios File Is Incorrect

i am scratching my head and am wondering where did i go wrong. i'd appreciate your advice. tks.

sorry, i hope that i posted my question in the right forum.

i meant to ask also about installing xp pro in the laptop.

when i choose ACPI after F5 during setup, installation of xp pro hangs with 35 mins or 9 mins remaining stage. however, when i choose standard pc, i can complete installation but the cpu speed drops to 597MHZ from 1.6G.

i am actually tearing my hair out and would welcome any advice, hint or tip to solve it. tks
