I have an hp pavillion. Windows ME. I want to take the hard drive from another computer(the hard drive contains info and win98) and install it on my hp pavillion. I plugged it in, changed the jumpers did everything and somehow my system doesn't recognize. I've tried everything I could think of... HELP Is there a way I can make this work

Will require BIOS work to get it recognized in hardware first.
Then will require safe mode to kill any hardware items in the mangler.
Only then do you have a chance (slim as it may be) of having everything work. Probably 40% chance but that is dependent on you having or getting drivers for the hardware.

How about making it a slave to the master? Won't get into the hardware issues. Or even the master on the secondary in place of the CD?

I want to put that 2nd hard drive as a slave... when I put it in the bios doesn't even recognizes it. When I try putting it as the master I get the mssaage operating system not found... I've tried every possible thing to get it recognized and it's not working... I'm beginning to think that hp sets the bios in such a way that you can't install anything else unless you bring it to a dealer...

Ones I've worked on haven't been particularly difficult.

But not having one available right now, I can't offer anything but encouragement.

Try connecting the drive as Master on the secondary IDE connector, but first set Secondary Master to Auto detect in the bios, you don't necessarily need a cdrom connected.
