Hi,

I tried to do a search but could not find anything that entirely answered my question.

I have a GP to prevent the use of specific applications, however when people are not in the office and not connected to the network they should be able to use them.

I know changing the name of the EXE file will allow access but this is not really an ideal solution.

Any advice most welcome.

Kind Regards,

Create a log off script that removes the policy at logoff. You will need to delete registry keys.

I don't however understand the logic of what you are trying to do. Why would you want to allow programs outside of the network that you don't allow inside. If the applications are harmful or non-business related why allow them at all?

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

Mark,

Thanks for your reply. I totally agree. In this instance the program is Google Chrome. It should not be used in the office (laptop users), but we were debating allowing them to use it at home etc.

Giving it further thought I may simply ban it completely irrespective of if they are at work or home.

I do however like the idea of a log off script as I have a second issue with people not being able to use the Internet at home because of proxy settings; which we have recently put in place.

I was debating on using the logon script to set the registry settings to enable proxy and as you suggested a logoff script to remove it.

That seems a neater solution.

Cheers,
