the 802.1Q Vlan spec adds four bytes to the ethernet spec, raising the maximium packet size to 1518 from 1514. if you need to run VLANs on wireless (eww) then be sure that the gear does not discard packets over 1514 bytes I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
Heh, and make sure you don't end up with my problem, every time I wander through the building I have to reset my handheld as I wander from network to network through the vlan that our (useless) ITS dept set up.
We found the expensive Symbol and Cisco Access Points and cards did WAY better at reconnecting to our wireless VLAN than the cheap SMC & Dell access points and cards. For relatively fixed use at close range (mobile classroom) the SMCs were fine I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
