I am a beginning program learning C++ and HTML. I want to become a MCSD but I don't know whether to focus on Visual C++ or Visual Basic. I want to get into Web programming and design as a result of my certifications. Which Certifications should I pursuit?

In my opinion, these are the core technologies you should study:

HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C, Perl

Don't get hung up on MS stuff. Keep it cross-platform and non-proprietary. And, BTW, Java is not a web language, even though some people try hard to make it one. JavaScript is an excellent web language, but has nothing to do with Java.
Sincerely,

Java not a web language? Sure it is... the web was responsible for Java's immense popularity. JSP and applets are both web-involved to begin with, not to mention network software that can be easy to create using Java..<br><br>I think, though, that what Tom is trying to say (which I agree with) is that Java is not a primary tool in web development these days, only because it takes so long to load and is heavy on the processor, where as scripting is much faster and a bit easier.<br><br>As far as &quot;design&quot; goes.. do you want to be mostly an artistic designer, or a functional designer? front end or back end? independent? all of the above? Find out exactly what you want to be, then find out what websites and what designers are already in that area... <br><br>Liam Morley<br><A HREF="mailto:"></A><br><A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> the deep, and bring silence to the world.<br>

I absolutely agree with imotic:

&quot;As far as &quot;design&quot; goes.. do you want to be mostly an artistic designer, or a functional designer? front end or back end? independent? all of the above? Find out exactly what you want to be...&quot;

I have been fortunate to participate in projects from a variety of angles; it's been great experience! On the downside, lack of a consistent focus makes study hard.

I 'know a little about a lot and a lot about a little :p Regards,
