Hello,

I would like to install windows 2000 on a Proliant 1600 server (a Pentium 2 400 Mhz model). I have been on the HP website to get the drivers and there are *lots* of drivers. I am a little lost in that drivers' jungle.

I would like a step-by-step procedure to install W2k and the necessary drivers, because I want to do it right. Can you help me?

Thank you

David

David, in your case the best bet would be to use the SmartStart CD that comes with the server. If you don't have one handy and cannot get one, proceed with a standard installation of Win2K (the 1600 is old enough for Win2K to be able to identify all components -- it will load a generic Raid and SCSI drivers)
Once you have Win2K installed and have applied service pack 4. Download the Compaq support pack from the HP website. This is a tool that will search for all Compaq components on your Win2K machine and list the appropriate drivers and install them for you.
This is a whole lot simpler than installing individual drivers. Hope this helps.

That's a good news istp1965! Thanks, it helps a lot!

I did what you suggested, I installed Win2k + SP4.

But now, I don't know where to find the Compaq Support Pack on HP website. Do you have any hint?

Thanks again

David

I have W2K Advanced server running on a 1600/350 and a Extension SCSI RAID array with no problem. Simply built it using SS 5.40 and installed
