Dear all,

I have trawled the net for a laptop cooler for my 18.6"(inch) laptop (so basically 19"), around £20-£35...
I have had no success...diamentions are
43.5cm(w)x40cm(L)

The diamentions on most web sites (Amazon is the worst culprit) are either non existant or really difficult to find.

Does anyone know of a good cooler for my Laptop out there?

I would really appreciate any help [sadeyes]

Kind regards

If you use your laptop on a metal camping table (the sort they sell at Tesco for £20+), you'll find that it conducts the heat away quite well. Of course lots of people will be asking you why you have a metal camping table in your living room/office.

Is it getting that hot? Laptops, especially if they have the fans on the bottom, need proper air flow. If you have a laptop with bottom fans, you shouldn't use it on your lap or other soft surface.

You may also want to check for dust, properly running fans, and so forth. I have had to replace the heat pipes in a couple laptops.

Of course, I don't know your specific situation, but normally if a laptop is working properly with adequate ventilation, you shouldn't have a cooling issue.

Dear XWB and gbaughma,

I have an aluminium desk, but no way to set it up...

The laptop ventilation is good, with fans at the bottom, only ever use it on a desk, otherwise I'd cook my legs..
Checked for dust as my wifes laptop used to overheat because of that problem, so I check often.

It gets hot during game play, not toasty, but hot enough that I want a laptop cooler...

Want to preserve my laptop for as long as possible.

So as it stands I want a laptop cooler...

I live in the UK...

Any more help would be great thanks [smile]

Kind regards

Triacona:

Fair enough response. :) I do know that I have a 17" laptop, and the "regular" coolers are too small for it. I have been unable to find one that is large enough; and of course, my fans are on the bottom of my laptop as well.

If the laptop is older, you may want to consider replacing your thermal compound. I highly recommend Arctic Silver. I used it on my PS3 (which gets VERY warm, considering it's an 11-core processor), and the fans went from running at a minimum speed of 50% to 10% when the machine is idle.

I didn't believe all the hype about Arctic Silver until I actually tried it... now I swear by it.

Sorry that I can't be of more help.

Dear gbaughma,

Thanks for your help [smile]

There is a 17" laptop cooler for your laptop:
400mm(w)x390mm(l)x25mm(h)
Zalman NC2000 Cooler on AmazonUK...

dear soccercook44,

It is a US site, unfortunately, and I would have to pay alot for shipping...

Thanks for the help though.

Are there no 18.6-19 inch laptop coolers out in the UK, how strange...

Anymore help would be appreciated [smile]

Kind regards

Triacona

if you can't find it in the UK, then maybe take a look across the channel, e.g. The Netherlands, Germany, or France... shipping charges should be well under those from the US...

but I found the following:

Zalman NC-2000 Black

The above company's address:

Quiet PC LLP, Brawby Grange, Brawby, Malton, North Yorkshire YO17 6PZ, UK.

But as you can see from the above dimensions the Zalman NC2000 is too small.

Thanks to all.

Dear BadBigBen,

Thank you for all your help..

I have found a cooler with dimensions that will just about fit.

Zalman ZM-NC3000U Ultimate:

Dimensions 365(L) x 400(W) x 60(H) mm
Weight 1.2kg
Base Material Aluminum, Plastic
Noise 17~23dBA ± 10 %
Input Voltage 5V(USB powered)
Coloer Black

Size/Type 220mm/Axial Fan
Units 1 units
Bearing Type Sleeve Bearing
RPM 620~720rpm ± 10 %

This one leaves a deficit of just 36mm for the width, but I have measured it and it will just work as my feet are about 19.5mm inward giving me a total of 39mm give yay!!!

thanks again [bigsmile]

Kind regads

Triacona,

From all I've read on those things (thought about getting one myself - smaller one, for 15.4 inch laptop), the Zalman should really fit the bill for you. That line of coolers seems to outperform all competitors I've ever read about. Zalman is also generally one of the best at cooling products, anyway - not necessarily THE best in every category, but they usually have a good showing.

Please post back with whether or not it helps in your situation. Also, be sure the fans are blowing the right directly for your laptop. I've also read of situations where the fans blew the opposite of what the person needed, and caused more trouble than helped.

The cooler works quite well, the feet on my laptop just barely fit on it, a few mm either way.

The cooling performance is not as good as I would have liked.

The average temperature before the cooler was:
Light to average work on the laptop:
54-60°C
When gaming or heavy duty work:
60-82°C

The Average Temperature whilst using the cooler was:
Light to average work on the laptop:
44-51°C
When gaming or heavy duty work:
55-65°C

The aluminium is a bit flimsy and thin.
The design is good.
The fan does not feel like it blows sufficient air through the multiple holes, or indeed straight in front of it; even at full tilt (full fan power).

The multiple holes in the aluminium don't seem to distribute the air from the fan evenly...

But on the whole it does cool my laptop and is relatively quiet.

The aluminium feels like it keeps cool because of the built in fan.

I hope this helps [smile]

Kind regards

Triacona

Yeah, that DOES sound good. Most coolers haven't hardly made any difference for the laptops they were used with... from tests I've read.

thanks for the detailed info.
