This is a question about Western Digital IDE disks, specifically the Caviar 21200 drive.
I have one that spins up OK, but only very very occasionally reports itself to the BIOS when the BIOS is set to autodetect, and never when the drive geometry (as printed on top of the drive) is entered into the BIOS.

I've tried all manner of jumper combinations and have read the stuff on WD's site about the drive and jumper settings, but no joy. Is there any way I can get my system to talk to this drive?

FWIW, I've tried all combinations of IDE channel and jumper settings (i.e. primary master, etc etc) to no avail.

Please help - there's some important stuff I need to retrieve from this disk before I bin it!

Peter.
