Where I work, we pretty much have to choose Windows (most current version when we purchase new PC's) as the pc operating system to keep users happy. (They need a common environment to the rest of the world.)

Our network OS? Novell
Our office e-mail? GroupWise (formerly WordPerfect Office)
Our wordprocessor? WordPerfect
Our spreadsheet? Lotus 1-2-3
Our pc databases? dBase

Why? They were first in class, are still the best, and are cheaper. A mixture still works.

Novell, all but dea, struggling to keep a foothold in the market
WordPerfect? outdated and outclassed by almost EVERY word processing software released this day and age, being phased out quickley (darn)
Lotus 1-2-3, while still ecelent, it is still sold as 'spredsheet software only'. business like having the ability to easily interchange data between applications such as their word processor or database. while lotus can do these operations, how much more effectivly and efficiantly would it be to have all the same software company perform all this, and have it all work together smoothly. M$ offers this in their OFFICE suite. however M$ is no longet the only one to offer this check out OpenOffice, or it's twin released by SUN, compleatly free and can do more functions then even the most expensive office product. it works across platforms and accross applications(can read and save in office, lotus, and other formats)efficiantly, and did i mention, it was availible for free?

M$ where is your sting now? I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every moment of it.
