I've been through the FAQs and threads etc. Here's what's going on. Shortly after installing Visual Studio.Net 2003 on my XP sp2 system IE started acting up. Some, not all, https pages would not connect. I'm afraid I played with a utility or 2 and may have buggered the reg.. so now I can't log into Netflix of all sites, but my online banking and other secure sites work fine. Increasingly IE complains to Debug, so something is messed up. If I try to install/uninstall Window components (Internet Explorer is not in the Add/Remove section of course) it has a cow because all the dll, chm files are Not in the System32/etc etc tree. What's up with that?
Is there anyway I can trash IE and reinstall it? Tried all the rereg stuff, new users, flush this and that. I really don't want to have to format and reinstall everything.

For XP SP2 at the moment, reinstall SP2 to fix IE.

I do not think an alternative will be available until IE 7 for XP SP2 appears in late summer of 2005.

something that may work

browse to c:\window\inf right click ie.inf and select install.

might not work but worth trying before you reinstall SP2
