i just got dsl service and now i think i need help with figturing on how to keep hackers out of my computer.

Zone Alarm is the simplest one. Its free or you can buy the Pro version.

zone alarm is ok but have you tried tinypersonal firewall it is actually aimed at dsl and cable users and it is pretty secure
