I just got a new comp and for some reason I can't get my hd or floppy drive to power up. The graphics card and mb both turn on. My stats are

asus p4c800 deluxe
pwer sp 431w p4 eg465p-ve
cpu p4 2.4ghz 478p
ddr 512mb 32mx8 pc-32000c2
hd 80gb 7200rpm 8mb

Might sound silly but it sound suspiciously like a loose connection make sure all cables or in tightly. The can come loose in transit.

not the case here.. i'm building it from scratch.

my keyboards lights wont even stay on for more then a sec once i hit the power button.

Does the computer POST or does it stop before that?

Make sure the drive cables are not plugged in backwards.

Make sure:

1) All cables are properly connected and not backwards
2) Check all power connections from front of case to motherboard to power supply
3) Reseat the RAM and make sure it's in the correct location

Let us know how far the system gets when you turn it on:

Do you see the option to enter the BIOS (POST screen)?
Do you hear any beeps?
Does anything appear on the screen?
Can you hear the hard drive being accessed or powering on?

Right from start up all that happens is the gcard, power supply and heatsynx start up. My keyboard flashes it's lights then turns off. Nothing comes up on my moneter. I can't hear my hard drive and my floppy does not have a green light. All cords are pluged in and I've a power light on the front of my case. I also have a power light for my hd on the front. I can't restart my comp.

I also don't hear any warning beeps when I don't have my ram in. So my best guess is I've that cord pluged in wrong.

The problem is not a cable going to the floppy or hard drive. If that was the problem, you'd make it through the POST test.

Instead, it's probably 1 of 3 things:
1) Incorrectly seated CPU or Video Card
2) Bad or shorted CPU/Video Card
3) Bad or shorted motherboard

Make sure the specs for everything including RAM and Video card match up. You're not using an old video card, are you?

ok so my gcard powers up buy my roommates newer card 3d prophet 4500 when pluged in wont even let the mother board start up.

Pull out everything but the video card, CPU and memory then turn it on and see what you get. If that works install the floppy and see if you can boot to dos.
