I just found this site and will probably visit it often. I have an app distributed with Paraodx v.7 runtime. A user has advised that the application ran last year. He istalled the new program and now is having lock up problems with both this year and last year's application. During installation, he received a message that the configuration file could not be merged, but I've run into this before and it never caused the application to freeze. I think it's a BDE issue and may have something to do with another application he installed between using last year's and this year's program. I know this is sketchy but thought someone might have a quick/easy resolution if they've had a similar experience.

jswilliams,

You're right; it's sketchy. :)

It sounds like the BDE.CFG file wasn't updated. If wither application uses public aliases, that could be why they're not running. However, that shouldn't cause lockup problems.

Most likely, BDE is not installed properly. Try using the lastest MSI file from Borland's site ( Next, makse sure BDE is configured for your versions of Windows. See and (which also applies to Win2K/XP).

If these don't help, we really could use more details.

Hope this helps...

Thanks Lance.

Sorry I don't have much more detail. I'm glad I found this site as a resource.
