1. I don't want people to be able to telnet into my linux 6.0RH machines as root. How do I set t up so that they must telnet in as themselves and then su to root.

2. I want to insert a log in banner that warns users of monitoring and such when they "log-in" (of course). All of our machines are using xdm. Is there a feature that allows us to insert a disclaimer banner in the xdm.conf file or something of that nature. This is very important and appreciate any help you can give me.
1. /etc/securetty lists the consoles root can log in from, should only be /dev/ttyX, ttypX shouldnt be in there, thats telnet etc.

2. For telnet use /etc/issue.net, for XDM check /etc/X11/xdm, probably xdm-config.

Thanks for your response.
1. This solution worked.
2. We had to create the log-on banner using TCL and couple widgets later it was done. We then added it to the /etc/X11/Xsession file and in /var/X11/xdm/Xsession.dt on our SGI's. Works flawlessly.

Thanks again.
