I have recently received my MCP certification(last month) and have been looking for work since then, and have not received any calls for interviews. I first thought it was my resume... but after talking to a technical employment agency they said the IT industry is really saturated with MCP/MCSE people. he said he receives 50 MCSE resumes per month from ontario. Ive been checking websites, the newspaper, etc etc. and have not received a response.

I also have my Computer Information Systems diploma.
I have also worked as a computer technician for 1 year. my work experience includes in-store computer repairs, doing service calls for clients. my network experience is basic.. although i was required to install a server cabinet/server/10 workstations/router/hub etc etc-- by following a manual. that was probably the biggest job ive done, in respect to networking. so.... right now im basically ready to get any job i can get.. warehouse.. whatever. so im question is, why is the IT job market so shitty right now. after getting my MCP cert I thought it would be easy to land a network/help desk position. Where is the IT industry heading right now?. I did a little research and they say Network Security and Wireless networking are going to be in demand. What do you guys think??

Here in the UK, the job market went really quiet after the tragic events in the US. I worked for a bank whose parent company was American and they had to cut 20% if their IT workforce (including contract staff of which I was one).

Although there are more jobs out there now, this is only due to the new financial year starting in April, there are still less than usual.

Speaking about the UK, I think it is just a bit of a slowdown at the moment. Depending on how the economy is depends really on what the job market is. Most employees in the UK look for experience on CV's and resumes rather than qualifications. I am lucky because I have a good CV (resume). -----------------------------------------------------

TheLad,

Doesn't it annoy you here in the UK that there are loads of companies and even the government trying offering to give people IT training and get them into the industry.

Thing is there are not enough jobs, for the people already working in the industry. It really winds me up when I hear the adverts on the radio and see them in the paper.

I've got over 6 years experience and an MCP in W2K, and working towards the MCSE and CCNP at the moment. I have seen 1 job advertised in our local papers this week. I have checked several websites\agencies and there is nothing at the moment.

Zinger78 - Stick with it, there is a downturn at the moment, what type of positions are you applying for in IT. Have you considered HelpDesk jobs, that's where I started I only did it for 6 months before I was moved on to managing it and them through into TEch Support, might be the gateway you need???

ukjane - you'll find that people who leave the Services early also take up IT. I have worked with several ex-sailors in my time

(along with several Australians, South Africans, Germans etc....)

Best thing I ever did was to register my CV with every Internet job agency and get contacts at each one. Then, pester them.... I even have my CV online so that I can give the URL to a potential agency and tell them to get the latest copy from there. I also have scanned copies of my written references online for their perusal. It's all about selling yourself - no bullsh*t though, people can tell a mile off.... -----------------------------------------------------
