I have just purchased an Elitegroup K7S5A motherboard and a DURON 800 processor. I have also purchased a new case with a 300 watt PSU.

I have assembled machine with Matrox Millenium AGP gfx card, 1 x 64mb PC100 SDRAM, Seagate 3gb h/d (With current o/s installed), fdd, and cdrom.

When machine boots into current windows 98, system tries to detect new hardware settings and locks out. I then have to restart machine, and am told that windows is restoring registry, and tells me to restart machine. I then have to go throught the same process again.

I have tried booting from win98 startup disk, to reinstall windows, but when i run the SETUP command machine locks out again.

I have also set machine up with an 80mb h/d and booted into DOS. I have been able to FDISK and FORMAT this drive, but when I try to install DOS 6.2, machine locks when SETUP is executed.

Please help with this problem.

Thanks, MagicDave

By the term "booting into current Windows" do you mean it has an old installation of Windows already on it?
It will have all the old settings on it from the old motherboard.
It is always preferable to reformat the hard drive and clean install windows with a new motherboard.
Use your Windows boot disk and at the "a" prompt type:
format c:/u (you will of course loose all drive information) Martin Just trying to help, sometimes falling short, I am only human after all.

paparazi is right, unless the mobo you used to have was a K7S5A (by the sound of it, it's not), the hardware is going to be all different. Windows is trying to load drivers for stuff that isn't there anymore.
