I have been using WP since the year dot, wouldn't swap it for the world and have recently upgraded to Windows XP Pro!

I installed MS Word 2000 (for compatability reasons) and Outlook and then I installed WP8.

I am now told from 'time to time' that a recently installed program (which I presume to be WP8) changed a file that would effect Outlook etc and do I want it to repair that error which won't effect the 'newly installed program' (WP8)

If I say yes, it does what ever it does and no more warnings.

However,I then find that I am unable to use WP8 address book. I have to get round the problem by reinstalling WP8 address Book.

Any work rounds to resolve this issue?

Yep, Bill's nasty that way.

After that go to your Corel address book and click on Settings (book > settings) choose Corel8 or corel settings. Reboot. YOu should have your address book back.

When Outlook Express accosts you next time just say no and click the option not to be asked again. There shouldn't be much harm done. If there is, then don't use it. Get Eudora. It's safer, anyway.
