I have a successful DB connection when test, no go on table info

I am able to get a successful DB connection in Dreamweaver when I test it. But I am unable to retrieve table information from my Microsoft Access database. I have never had this difficulty before, usually once the connection has been made I'm in the clear. Any help knowledge or suggestions would be muchly appreciated.

What programming language are you using?
How do you know you're making a successful connection to the dB if the call to the table dies?
