i have a sql server table that gets updated every morning from a csv file outputted by our legacy program (our consultants do this - not very well). Occassionally their program malfunctions and picks up wrong dates causing my database to import duplicates from the csv.

What would be the best way to create a fail safe to prevent the importing of duplicates from csv?

How about defining a unique constraint on the field or combination of fields which makes the record unique.
