Someone help me, because i am planning to have a two OS in one box. But my problem is when I finished installing and configuring RED HAT there is an error in my cmos regarding about the system time and then RED HAT does not start, i tried to remove my Windows 2000 but I get the same result.. Is there a problem with my box? Somebody help me, please.... I need linux very badly.....

Succeess is never final and failure is never fatal. It's Courage that counts.

Hi
Any OS installation should not cause errors on your CMOS.
Is your CMOS battery perhaps not flat? If so, it could lose your date/time, hard disk configuration etc.
Does you Boot Loader come up? ie. GRUB or LILO.

Yeah the LILO appears but it is not completely loaded.... this is the set up.. i really appreciate your help.....

I have two HD, and a COMPAQ Presario 7000. When the two HD is present, cold boot is very slow...but when there is only one cold boot is fast... I tried to install RED HAT in one hd with two partitions but I come up with the same result...... I successfully installed last summer this kind of setup last time in other box.... I just wonder if my box has a problem..... tnx a lot.....

Could be that your Boot Sector is corrupt... (Any viruses?)
Would you be able to re-install the box, remove all partitions and mark them to be formatted?
Hard disk errors would be picked up during the format. You could also try and RAID these two disks or use LVM.
Any errors with this type of install should indicate hardware problems.

i have no problems with my HD's, i tried brand new HD but it doesn't work....... i am just amazed that in windows there is no problem..... even when i installed only red hat i came out with the same results... i am very much comfortable and secure in using linux.....

You can try to install GRUB bootloader. And you choose MBR during install bootloader option. You can configure the time zone during installation.
If you only install LInux on your HD without any Windows OS.
What RH version did you use ? Did you use smartstart from Compaq to install RH ? Good Luck.....:)

nope i don't use the smartstart.... i used RH 8.0... i am using mbr for the bootloader... i don't have any problem with the time zone.... after installation... in the cold boot there is a system time error....
