I have windows 98, first edition. The previous keyboard would sometimes lock up and not work till I rebooted, so I replaced it. This one sometimes acts as if the shift key is being held in. The problem disappears if I reboot. Both keyboards are standard, basic beige things. Will an upgrade to 98SE solve this problem?

You might go to Start - Settings - Control Panel - Acessability Options, and see if "sticky keys" is turned on

No, that option is greyed out. It is an intermittent problem , the worst kind. Maybe 98SE would solve the problem , who knows?

I dont think upgrading would help although its possible that it could. Put your system disc in, go to start then run and type sfc and hit enter. Let it scan to see if any files are corrupted. Also might want to make sure temp folder is emptied and also maybe try uninstall the keyboard and letting windows reinstall it. Give those a try and post back to let us know if it helped.

Thanks for your suggestions. SFC found no problems. I recently installed CCleaner (which is great freeware BTW), and run it regularly, so no problems with temporary files. Had no keyboard issue for about a week, maybe CCleaner is helping. Will post if problem reoccurs.
