I have switched to Indesign recently and have a few things that I don’t understand.

Question number one…
Why does my mouse wheel sometimes scroll the page up and down and some times not?
I can’t seem to find a way to start it working again once it stops.

Question number two…
Why do I some times have to select a type block with the selection arrow before I can place the type cursor in it? This happens even after I move the type block to the front and there are no overlapping text frames.

Question number three…
What does the Number Sign (#) mean when used as a hidden character?
I always used it to indicate a space in the past, but Indesign uses a dot for this.

That’s it for now, thanks for the help.

I'm not sure the answer to the first question, as to question two, i always double click in a text block to access the text tool, so I've never had the trouble you are decribing. As to question 3, the "#" is an indicator of the end of a text stream in a text box.
Note: If there is a "#" in a box with no text, it indicates that the element is a text box, that some designer used as a design element. Go to Object-Content and change it to either a "Graphic" or "Unassigned" box. This way InDesign won't be looking for the default font associated with that box (even though there's no text in it).
I hope that's understandable.

Thanks for the info, I'll try double clicking and see what happens.
